Beverley

The focus of Beverley's career has been working with battered women and or any person involved in an abusive situation. She has dedicated herself with true devotion to the prevention, intervention, and recovery of any person involved in the sex-trade industry. Beverley's Bachelor of Arts Degree in Women's Studies from York University has provided a solid foundation for StreetLight's success. The philosophy of StreetLight has been that sex trade industry displays the same patterns of ritual abuse and violence, globally. Beverley co-ordinates, develops and implements innovative programs, workshops, and provides supportive consultations and public speaking, for exit programs that are developed world- wide. The co-ordination and support of Canada's first court mandated diversion exit program for people engaging in prostitution has evolved significantly and successfully upon the arrival of Beverley McAleese in 1996. Beverley was awarded the prestigious YWCA Woman of Distinction Award for Social Action and Justice in 2003 in recognition of her work.
