The following are quotes and paraphrasing taken from the novel
children in the game by Ross A. MacInnes.
Date-A person who obtains services from prostitutes.
Dinner-A slang term for sexual intercourse. Often used to try and outwit the police or in the belief that it will serve as a defense in court.
'Dis or dissing-A term used to indicate that a prostitute is not showing respect to her pimp. A serious offence and will guarantee a beating.
Dogging-The action taken by a pimp to condition his prostitute to accept some very unpleasant activities. The word comes from the methods used to train a dog. A beating is followed by a shower of affection, treats and special considerations, then another beating. The prostitute becomes disoriented, not knowing right from wrong. She feels everything is her fault and will do just about anything to receive the praise and love from the pimp.
Double-Two prostitutes on a date with two johns, or two prostitutes with a single customer.
Drag-The area where prostitutes walk the street and solicit business. May also refer to the style of clothing worn by a male person dressed in female clothing.
Dress code-An informal agreement between the prostitutes as to how they will dress in order to keep the competition fair. Often the police understand this code and will remind the girls of it, in order to prevent violence on the strolls.
Drinks-Slang term for fellatio. Often used to try and outwit the police, or in the belief that it will serve as a defense in court.
Drinks and dinner-A slang term for fellatio to erection then intercourse. Refers to a half and half, and used to try and outwit the police.
Drug track/druggie stroll/ drunk stroll-An area of the city where prostitutes who are drug or alcohol dependent work for low rates in order to pay for their next high.
Fag hag-A derogatory term applied to a woman who associates with male prostitutes. Will occasionally act as a pimp for a male prostitute.
Fag stroll-An area of the city where male prostitutes work; where males come to pick up other males for sexual services.
First break-The first trick the prostitute pulls in the evening for which she receives money.
Flashing / flash rolls-The action of a pimp who is showing off his clothes, car, jewelry, etc. to impress a prospective prostitute or other pimp.
Game or "the game"-The life of a pimp and his prostitutes. It is viewed as an exciting game between the players in the life. Taking women from each other, outwitting the police and living dangerously.
Gay-for-pay-A prostitute, who is not a homosexual, but will engage in homosexual acts for pay.
Greek-Anal intercourse.
Half-and-half-Fellatio and intercourse.
Hand job-Masturbation of the customer, by the prostitute, to ejaculation.
High end / high track-Refers to both prostitutes who have higher fees and to the area of the city which they are found. They are generally better dressed—often “glamorously” outfitted in fine clothes and impeccable make-up. Characteristically, high track prostitutes are highly organized under tight control of a pimp with considerable power. The high track is very territorial.
Hoe/ ho-A Female prostitute.
Jacked up-An action taken, usually by other prostitutes, to bring another prostitute into line. Often for things like undercutting prices, working without a pimp, or other street rule violations. For example, the other prostitutes would assault a new girl working without a pimp, as she may be taking their customers. This would be referred to as "jacking her up."
John-A male customer.
Juice-A pimp who is viewed as courageous in dealing with other pimps, the police, or tough prostitutes. He would be seen as "having the juice to do it."
Lay-Sexual intercourse.
Leaving fee-An amount levied against the prostitute by the pimp in order for her to get out of the life of prostitution. Generally is an amount she will never be able to pay off, and so becomes a debt that is never erased.
Life or "the life"-Being involved in pimping or prostitution in general.
Live-Refers to a pimp who is active in prostitution
Live club-A bar where pimps hang out and where they may take their girls in the off hours. Often the location where choosing takes place, or where territory is established or negotiated.
Look or the look-Refers to a prostitute's technique of making direct eye contact that invites conversation with a potential customer.
Low track-Refers to both prostitutes who have lower fees and to the area of the city in which they are found. Generally they are not well dressed.
Mack or Mack daddy-A well established pimp who is often involved in the high-end trade with escort agencies or massage parlours where he works girls. He very often has a home in the suburbs and his neighbors are not aware of his occupation.
Main-The most influential women in a pimp's group of prostitutes. Frequently, the one he lives with. Often she does his collections, enforces his rules, sets prices, etc. Sometimes referred to as the pimp's wifey.
Man-Pimp as in "my man" or "her man"
Minder-A term used by the police to refer to someone who looks after the girls. Sometimes this is an older girl or a woman who is given the responsibility by a pimp or gang to keep all the young prostitutes together and in line. She sometimes functions as a "babysitter".
